An ode to today

I’m tired of playing these politics games
where we can’t be honest and we need to hide
our true intentions because we’re not right
alongside the norm, inside the box
mental energy
exerted in this way
drains my spirit
fuels my anxiety
crushes my productivity
why can’t they see that
they also do this
to themselves
I wish we could focus
just a little higher than this
I don’t want to outwit you
I want to out perform you

you don’t put chains on me

refusing fear
of setting out and doing
what I want to do
I don’t need someone
to pay me
no one is stopping me
from using
those other eight hours of my life
each day
those hours are free
and it’s up to me to make them into what I want
and especially what I need
recreation won’t take me anywhere
except round in circles

Get thee to a Nunnery!

we need to take her on a tour
inside the chapel
and then lock the door

time is so easily wasted
fulfilling requirements of rules, protocol, practice
we could instead live the true values
of honesty and righteousness
within reason
and without red tape
if we let our egos sit on the sidelines
and refused to be corrupt

We didn’t come here to sleep around

he gives ideas out like candy on halloween
spreading opportunity if you decide to accept the challenge
but with freedom comes responsibility
it’s one thing to say that: “this concept is transformative”
it’s another thing to follow through with the transformation
something more than demonstration and report
the perseverance to live above this culture
is a constant struggle with your best instincts
and your worst fears
the good fight is the reward
it was never meant to taste sweet
the glory moments are misinterpretations
and your closest friends are sometimes your biggest enemies
